This small gable-roofed house is conceived as having a dual relationship to time. It is constructed first as a permanent container or “shell”, and secondly as an impermanent, plastic content, which can be freely modified and adapted in a continual process of technological renewal.

The building consists of two primary groups of materials: masonry and wood. These material groups link the building to historic vernacular building types (barns, wineries, farmhouses) in the Napa Valley and to modern industrial construction techniques and material.
